Congratulations to Greg Quirk from St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill who won the Grade 10 2012 Australian History Competition. Greg achieved 96% in the competition - 2 marks in front of the next nearest student.
Congratulations also go to Alexander Duthy from Prince Alfred College in Adelaide and Tom Weight from Christ Church College in Perth on being joint winners of the Grade 8 2012 Australian History Competition. Alexander and Tom were the only students in Australia to achieve a perfect score of 100%.
The 2013 Australian History Competition will be held on May 29th. The closing date for registrations is April 12th.

Thank you to everyone for sending their answer sheets back promptly. We are in the process of scanning and marking the papers and will have the certificates posted back to you early next term.
For your interest we have posted the answers on the website under the heading 2012 Evaluation. This will let you have a look at the answers and discuss them with your students while the paper is fresh in their minds. Also with the answers is the main focus from the curriculum that is covered by each of the questions.

Students should be made aware that there will be a number of knowledge based questions in the paper that relate directly to these topics and that they should spend some time researching these areas before the day of the competition.

Registrations are now open for the 2012 Australian History Competition. This year there are separate competitions for years 7and 8 and 9 and 10.
You can either register online through this website or wait until you receive a brochure that we will be posting to all schools on January 27th. The brochure will include a registration form.

2011 Australian History Competition results have recently been sent to participating schools. An evaluation of the 2011 competition has also been posted on this website.
Plans are already being developed for 2012, when we will add a Year 8 competition to the Year 10 competition. Full details should be available by mid-late October.

We have found that the wrong version of the Source Sheet was printed and posted to you last week. We are re-printing the Source Sheet and it will be posted on Wednesday May 18th. The correct version of the Source Sheet will have a red border at the top.

Competition papers
The papers and answers sheets will be posted to schools on May 6th and should arrive in schools during the week May 9 to May 13. Please keep an eye out for them.
Teachers need to count the papers when they arrive to make sure that you have enough. It is also vital to have the papers securely stored.

Researched questions
Each year around 10% of the questions will be based on source material that is readily accessible on the internet. The intention will be to indicate this source material to students and allow them the opportunity to prepare for this section of the competition.
In 2011 the Researched Questions will be based on a number of Factsheets located on the Museum of Australian Democracy’s Website:

Questions may focus on any of the Prime Minister’s Factsheets and the System of Government and Elections Factsheets.
